The Traditional Furniture Evolution

Monday, February 1st, 2010

Traditional BedIt’s no doubt that the traditional old world style of furniture was designed to impress.  Traditional furniture was originally designed for European royalty from the 17th to the 19th century.  Luxurious furniture was created by using intricate and formal finishes that were rich and dark.  Cherry, walnut, dark oaks, and mahogany were the desired woods that were used.  The woods were often stained with medium to dark finishes and you could often find certain pieces adorned with marble.  In traditional furniture you can expect to find curved or fluted legs and ball and claw feet as well.

The Campaign and Plantation style of traditional furniture evolved from colonial expeditions and wartime. It differed from the old world styles as furniture pieces often had legs that were able to be removed or folded down entirely.  As opposed to the intricate details of the old world style, the Campaign and Plantation style furniture had simple details and cleaner lines. You could often find these pieces with hidden compartments and rich textures or even animal prints too.

The Early American style of traditional furniture held its roots from the traditional old world style, but were scaled down for the more simplified American desires.  Early American furniture featured medium to dark finishes on cherry, walnut, oak, mahogany and pine woods.  Many furniture pieces were also painted and contained spindles and finials.

All varieties of traditional furniture remain a popular design choice in today’s world.  At Grand Furniture Gallery you will find many exquisite furniture pieces, designed in the traditional style that is sure to make your home look absolutely divine.  Stop by our store to see our beautiful selection of traditional furniture for the bedroom, dining room, office, entertainment centers and occasional furnitureGrand Furniture Gallery takes pride in the quality name brand furniture that we offer.  All of our products come straight from North Carolina and are offered at tremendous discounts everyday.

Edwardian Style Furniture Still A Popular Design Choice

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

EdwardianThe years from 1901 to 1910 are technically considered the “Edwardian era”, which was named after the reign of King Edward VII.  Stylistically speaking however, people began embracing the Edwardian style in the early 1890’s and continued to enjoy it until the beginning of World War II.  The Victorian era preceded the Edwardian era, and people grew tired of the dark and heavy Victorian style.  They soon began to enjoy the ambiance that was created by the cheerful Edwardian decorating style. The Edwardian style brought about many changes in home decorating, mostly because people had a new understanding of cleanliness.  Carpeting was replaced with wood or linoleum flooring.  Dark paint was replaced with white paint so that dirt could be seen easier.  Wallpaper was removed and replaced with paint so that it too could be cleaned easier.  During the Victorian Era, even the ceilings were wallpapered, so the changes in home décor were quite vast.  Heavy Victorian curtains were also tossed out and exchanged for simple lace panels.  Many of these stylistic changes are still popular in today’s homes.

At Grand Furniture Gallery you will find the Edwardian Mans Chest Complete, which showcases the beautiful Edwardian style.  This stunning piece of furniture is not only spacious, but designed to last for years to come.  This chest offers drawers galore to fit everything in any man’s wardrobe, a removable shelf, a clothing rod, and a beveled door mirror.  You can create a beautiful master bedroom suite when you purchase the entire Edwardian collection.  See the Edwardian Queen Poster Group A or the Edwardian Queen Sleigh Group B at Grand Furniture Gallery.  These sets will take you back to years past and still bring you the comfort that you need in today’s world.

Leather Furniture For A Lifetime Of Use

Friday, December 25th, 2009

Leather SofaTypically, leather furniture will last longer than its upholstered competitors.  Anyone who has ever owned a nice piece of leather furniture can tell you that proper care will not only prolong its life but also keep it looking attractive for many years.

Just like fine wood furniture, it’s important to keep leather furniture away from heat sources.  Leather can stiffen, crack and fade when placed too closely to a fireplace or in an area that receives direct sunlight.  All leather furniture should be dusted or vacuumed regularly.  Accumulated dirt or debris should be removed with a soft cloth that is slightly dampened.  Always test an inconspicuous spot to make sure that the leather is not absorbing the water prior to washing the entire surface area though.  Spills happen and when they do, you should never wipe leather during the clean up process.  Instead use a dry cloth and blot the spill until it is removed.

Leather can be tricky to clean when you have a stubborn stain, but you should never use cleaning solvents, detergents, ammonia or soap on it.  These products can all permanently damage the surface of the leather.  You should also be mindful of placing any newspapers or other printed materials on leather furniture.  Ink dyes will transfer and the remaining stains are very difficult to remove.  Most manufacturers will advise you that leather furniture should be conditioned every 6 to 12 months to prolong its life and keep it looking beautiful.

Grand Furniture Gallery has many beautiful pieces of leather furniture to choose from.  Stop by our store to see our extensive leather collection.  With the quality you expect from North Carolina furniture, we have sofas, chairs, ottomans, recliners, loveseats, bar stools, pub chairs, beds, commodes, benches, and mirrors that are available in many different colors.  Grand Furniture Gallery offers quality home furnishing for every room in your home.  You won’t be disappointed with our fantastic selection and fantastic prices.

Decorating A Girls Room With A Beautiful North Carolina Bunk Bed

Monday, December 7th, 2009

Bunk BedSugar and spice and everything nice…that’s what they say about girls you know.  Decorating a girl’s room, no matter the age, can be a fantastically fun adventure!

Every girl I have ever encountered loves pretty colors so decorating her room can be quite easy.  Whether you choose to paint the walls her favorite colors or keep it neutral, adding color components are important when decorating a girl’s room.  Accessories for the room provide a great way to add splashes of color through any space.

For a room she will adore consider making a theme room.  You can decorate a theme room as far as your imagination will take you.  Princesses and storybook characters have always been popular choices when decorating a little girl’s room.  Other room themes that might spark her interest are stars, dance, beach, angels, fairies, garden, animals, sports, jungle, and even bugs.  Any of these themes can easily be achieved by using paint, wallpaper border, stencils, murals, pictures, accessories, and sheets and bedding items.

Children can be very hard on furniture so you definitely want to pick furniture that will stand up to abuse.  When choosing a bunk bed, select one with fine craftsmanship that will last for many years to come.  Grand Furniture Gallery has the exquisitely designed Cottage Colours Beach White Twin Bunk Bed which will perfectly compliment any girl’s décor.  This twin bunk bed set is made of hardwood solids and veneers.  The Cottage Colours Collection has everything you will need to enhance the entire bedroom as well.  Check out the selection of dressers, mirrors, trundle unit, three drawer commode, and two drawer night stand.  If you decide that a bunk bed unit is not for you, no need to fret, the Cottage Colours Beach White also comes in different design choices and sizes.  See our selection of sleigh beds and poster beds that are simply divine!

The most important thing to remember is to include your girl in the process of decorating her room.  Children have wonderful imaginations and great ideas that will help in the designing process.  Grand Furniture Gallery will help too with their beautiful selection of quality North Carolina Children’s Furniture available for babies and teens and everyone in between!
