An increasing number of people are working from their homes these days, and most of them spend long hours sitting in front of the computer. It is essential for those who work at home to have a comfortable home office chair, because sitting for extended periods of time can result in backaches and other health problems. A good home office chair will make you feel more relaxed while you are working, and this can certainly contribute to an increase in productivity.

Seville Square Desk Chair
When you are buying a home office chair, you should make sure that the chair fits your size and body shape. Most office chairs come with standard-sized seats that can accommodate most people, and the heights of the seats can be adjusted to suit the needs of different users. The seat should have the right width, so that you will not feel too restricted while you are seated. For optimal comfort, it is recommended that you get a home office chair with armrests, because armrests can help to reduce tension in the shoulders and neck. Also, you should choose a chair that provides good lumbar support, preferably one that features adjustable backrest.
If you wish to order home office chairs online, there is a wide selection of desks chairs and bankers chairs at Grand Furniture Gallery for you to choose from.

The Victorian furniture era was named after Queen Victoria of England and was depicted by heavy dark toned furnishings. Back in the Victorian era, it was not uncommon to find homes filled with ornately carved furniture and heavily layered window treatments.
Her son, King Edward VII, succeeded to the throne in 1901, and then began the Edwardian furniture era. His design style was quite different than his mother’s. The Edwardian period was considered a more elegant and cheerful designing time. It was a time of change and distraction from the dark and heavy design style. During the Edwardian era, furniture was designed with delicate lines and upholstered in floral designs or flowing graphics. Many furniture pieces from the Edwardian furniture era had a mixed bag of design styles. You could often find previous designing techniques mixed together to make one interesting piece of furniture. For example, a desk could have slender legs with squared feet, and the drawers would have inlaid veneers and intricate hardware. Instead of a heavy desk, the desk would be delicate and light. Many furniture designers in the Edwardian era used curved lines for their furniture pieces. During this eclectic furniture making time period, mixing classic styles with curved designed was popular among designers. Basically, during the Edwardian design era, most anything that was cheerful and fun was acceptable!
At Grand Furniture Gallery you will find furniture reproductions from most every time period. In the past, furniture styles were named after reigning monarchs or furniture designers. Being such, the Queen Anne style was named after Queen Anne of England. It became popular sometime in the 17th century between 1720-1750. Thanks to English settlers, the Queen Anne style became a desired style in America.
The Queen Anne style furniture is a combination of the William and Mary style and Chippendale style furniture designs. The Queen Anne style furniture represented a lighter and more graceful type of furniture. It was considered to be more elegant and comfortable than previous types of furniture that was produced.
One of the things that made the Queen Anne type of furniture distinct was the cabriole leg. This type of leg had the knee curing outward and the ankle curving inward. The foot usually featured a pad foot which replaced the heavy claw and ball foot which had a delicate ornamental design. You could find these legs on almost all types of Queen Anne style furniture pieces during this time period as you can still in today’s furniture pieces. Early Queen Anne style furniture is known for being made of walnut; but maple and cherry types of wood were used as well.

Continuing from Monday…
Stickley’s furniture featured rectangular lines and was usually made of oak that was lightly stained to showcase the wood’s grain. Leather and canvas was used instead of heavy tapestry on seat cushions. Stickley took pride in the fact that he never used nails or glue as fasteners in his furniture pieces. Instead he had visible tenon-and-key joints, exposed tenons, and visible dowels as fasteners. Using these intricate techniques dated back to medieval times and made the Stickley Mission furniture extremely unique and in high demand.
Gustav Stickley considered himself a “craftsman” and published his own magazine called “The Craftsman” from 1901 to 1916. In it he promoted his principles of furniture design, mostly that pieces should be comfortable and well made, and practical too. Always supporting the Arts and Crafts movement, he often stressed the importance of choosing furniture that was more cost effective rather than luxurious.
Despite his many successes in furniture design, Stickley’s creations were subjected to unauthorized knock-off’s which eventually helped put him out of business. In 1915, Gustav Stickley filed for bankruptcy and closed his factory for good. The great news is, that despite his demise, the Mission style furniture still lives on today!

Furniture design styles have changed many times over, but it is sometimes hard to distinguish one style from another as at times, design styles overlapped as peoples tastes changed. The Chippendale style furniture was crafted from 1750 to 1780 and was named after London cabinetmaker Thomas Chippendale’s design styles. This American style furniture falls within the Colonial time period. Although it looked somewhat like the Queen Anne style furniture, the Chippendale style furniture was considered conservative by comparison.
One of the items that made the Chippendale style furniture distinct is the cabriole legs. These legs are curved with the knee curving outward and the ankle curving inward. At the end of the leg you will find an ornamental foot often made in the claw and ball type style. The claw and ball foot is also popular with the Queen Anne style furniture. During it’s height of popularity, expensive Chippendale furniture was made of mahogany wood.
At Grand Furniture Gallery you will find many beautiful pieces of furniture available in the Queen Anne and Chippendale inspired design styles. Stop by our store to see the Kentwood Collection. There you will find the elegant Kentwood Rectangle Pedestal Dining Set which is sure to be a delightful addition to your room’s décor. It’s no doubt that the traditional old world style of furniture was designed to impress. Traditional furniture was originally designed for European royalty from the 17th to the 19th century. Luxurious furniture was created by using intricate and formal finishes that were rich and dark. Cherry, walnut, dark oaks, and mahogany were the desired woods that were used. The woods were often stained with medium to dark finishes and you could often find certain pieces adorned with marble. In traditional furniture you can expect to find curved or fluted legs and ball and claw feet as well.
The Campaign and Plantation style of traditional furniture evolved from colonial expeditions and wartime. It differed from the old world styles as furniture pieces often had legs that were able to be removed or folded down entirely. As opposed to the intricate details of the old world style, the Campaign and Plantation style furniture had simple details and cleaner lines. You could often find these pieces with hidden compartments and rich textures or even animal prints too.
The Early American style of traditional furniture held its roots from the traditional old world style, but were scaled down for the more simplified American desires. Early American furniture featured medium to dark finishes on cherry, walnut, oak, mahogany and pine woods. Many furniture pieces were also painted and contained spindles and finials.
All varieties of traditional furniture remain a popular design choice in today’s world. At Grand Furniture Gallery you will find many exquisite furniture pieces, designed in the traditional style that is sure to make your home look absolutely divine. Stop by our store to see our beautiful selection of traditional furniture for the bedroom, dining room, office, entertainment centers and occasional furniture. Decorating a small living room, whether it is in a house or an apartment, can be a challenge for some people. It is easy to overcrowd a room with bulky furniture that can make the room look small and cluttered. By making a few simply design compromises; it is easy to make a small living space feel like you are living in a larger living space so you don’t feel cramped.
Here are a few tips to help you…
A room will always look smaller when you cannot see the majority of the floor space that is available. Consider moving furniture out and away from all walkways. Shorter pieces of furniture such as an ottoman, low table or armless chairs will also make the room appear larger than it is. Tall pieces of furniture should always take their place alongside a wall as well. When considering the paint that you will use on your walls, try to keep it within the same color family as any upholstered furniture that you have in the room.
Using mirrors in interior decorating is a trade secret. The days of having a wall of mirrors in the room are long past; but you can make any room look larger by placing a large framed decorative mirror at most any location within the room. Mirrors are not only functional; they also serve as a great way to reflect both natural and artificial light within a room. All rooms will look larger if they are well-lit. It does not matter the light source, so if the lack of windows are a problem, no worries, artificial lighting can still do the trick!
Please check back on Wednesday for the conclusion.

Typically, leather furniture will last longer than its upholstered competitors. Anyone who has ever owned a nice piece of leather furniture can tell you that proper care will not only prolong its life but also keep it looking attractive for many years.
Just like fine wood furniture, it’s important to keep leather furniture away from heat sources. Leather can stiffen, crack and fade when placed too closely to a fireplace or in an area that receives direct sunlight. All leather furniture should be dusted or vacuumed regularly. Accumulated dirt or debris should be removed with a soft cloth that is slightly dampened. Always test an inconspicuous spot to make sure that the leather is not absorbing the water prior to washing the entire surface area though. Spills happen and when they do, you should never wipe leather during the clean up process. Instead use a dry cloth and blot the spill until it is removed.
Leather can be tricky to clean when you have a stubborn stain, but you should never use cleaning solvents, detergents, ammonia or soap on it. These products can all permanently damage the surface of the leather. You should also be mindful of placing any newspapers or other printed materials on leather furniture. Ink dyes will transfer and the remaining stains are very difficult to remove. Most manufacturers will advise you that leather furniture should be conditioned every 6 to 12 months to prolong its life and keep it looking beautiful.
Grand Furniture Gallery has many beautiful pieces of leather furniture to choose from. Stop by our store to see our extensive leather collection. With the quality you expect from North Carolina furniture, we have sofas, chairs, ottomans, recliners, loveseats, bar stools, pub chairs, beds, commodes, benches, and mirrors that are available in many different colors. When describing the 18th century furniture era, most people refer to the masters of the time. Queen Ann, Georgian, Chippendale, Hepplewhite, Sheraton, Adam Regency, Federal, Empire, William and Mary and Directoire were the leaders in furniture creations. During the 18th century, furniture was not mass produced. Each piece that was created was not only useful, but also considered a work of art. Often using wood that was indigenous to the areas, furniture makers focused on sophisticated designs, often with intricate carvings that showcased their woodworking skills. Even though many of the design styles had similar elements that they might have shared; they all had exceptional details that made their individual styles known by all. For example, the Chippendale (American) style was conservative, but looked somewhat like the Queen Anne (English) style. The Hepplewhite (English) style often overlapped the Sheraton (English) style.
Traditional furniture designs never go out of style. The Kentwood Shield Back Side Chair is a perfect example. This beautifully designed chair is included in the Kentwood 60 Inch Round Pedestal Table Set and the Kentwood 60-80 Inch Round Pedestal Table, but can also be purchased separately in pairs. Inspired by masters of the past like Chippendale, Sheraton and Hepplewhite, the Kentwood collection will give you the feel of 18th century design style with a modern day flair. The Kentwood Shield Back Side Chair is available without arms or you can purchase the arm chair which features exquisitely carved serpentine arms with a floral rosette at the end. The back of the chair has a curved shield like motif which is typical of furniture from the 18th century.
Grand Furniture Gallery invites you to come and view their many different styles of quality North Carolina furniture that we have in stock.
