North Carolina Furniture Meets 18th Century Furniture Era

Side ChairWhen describing the 18th century furniture era, most people refer to the masters of the time.  Queen Ann, Georgian, Chippendale, Hepplewhite, Sheraton, Adam Regency, Federal, Empire, William and Mary and Directoire were the leaders in furniture creations.  During the 18th century, furniture was not mass produced.  Each piece that was created was not only useful, but also considered a work of art.  Often using wood that was indigenous to the areas, furniture makers focused on sophisticated designs, often with intricate carvings that showcased their woodworking skills.  Even though many of the design styles had similar elements that they might have shared; they all had exceptional details that made their individual styles known by all.  For example, the Chippendale (American) style was conservative, but looked somewhat like the Queen Anne (English) style.  The Hepplewhite (English) style often overlapped the Sheraton (English) style.

Traditional furniture designs never go out of style.  The Kentwood Shield Back Side Chair is a perfect example.  This beautifully designed chair is included in the Kentwood 60 Inch Round Pedestal Table Set and the Kentwood 60-80 Inch Round Pedestal Table, but can also be purchased separately in pairs.  Inspired by masters of the past like Chippendale, Sheraton and Hepplewhite, the Kentwood collection will give you the feel of 18th century design style with a modern day flair.  The Kentwood Shield Back Side Chair is available without arms or you can purchase the arm chair which features exquisitely carved serpentine arms with a floral rosette at the end.  The back of the chair has a curved shield like motif which is typical of furniture from the 18th century.
